About The Event

Brain injuries due to exposure to blasts and other military service-related causes are a significant problem for our active military and veteran communities. While the environment is different, athletes also suffer from similar injuries. These effects range from the development of mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a neurodegenerative disease that has been linked to repeated blows to the head in athletes and also recognized more recently in military Veterans. People with TBI, PTSD, or CTE are at a substantially higher risk of substance abuse, violence, and suicide. This video podcast will explore topics related to:

  • The ongoing research into brain health and concussion prevention.
  • The similarities and differences regarding the military, athlete, and youth response to concussion.
  • Best practices for concussion prevention and brain health.
  • The purpose of the Concussion Legacy Foundation Canada and its various programs, including Project Enlist, Operation Brain Health, and others.
